Swing Dance Can Be Very Addictive

Posted by Brigitta Baylor under Brigitta Blog

The early styles of Swing Dancing were formed in the nightclubs and have continued to evolve everyday to a beautiful art form and social activity.

There are many different forms of Swing Dancing with as many different names:  East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Shag, Bop, Imperial Swing, Lindy Hop, Jitterbug, Jive and the Pony.

Originally Swing was done to the hip new Big Band music of it’s era and included exciting lifts and drops.

Swing Dance is an intricate and intimate relationship between the dancers and the music.  It is the only partner dance on the face of the earth that allows the female the freedom to style her movements.

Swing Dance can be very addictive and the rewards are tremendous.

Brigitta Baylor’s Appreciation Party

Posted by Brigitta Baylor under Brigitta Blog

Words cannot express the love & humbleness I felt to see all the people who came out to show their appreciation. I had a GREAT time!

DFW Swing’s vision has always been to preserve the art of swing dance in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and that is what we will continue to do.

Don’t let anyone or anything keep you from loving the dance. We do it every month on 3rd Saturday!

I especially want to “Thank” Willie Starr II, and the DFW Swing Dance Crew DJ T, Brenda Griffith and Ms. CC for putting the event together and Lady Champagne, Al & Brenda Dillard and Ms. Beverly Neal  for contributing to the program.

Thanks to all the Swing Instructor’s who came out:

Jesse Majors, Lady Champagne, Al & Brenda Dillard, Terry Tucker, Sherry Thompson, Rod Hicks, Jennifer Thompson, Bernard Brown, Willie “Hitman”  Johnson, Nancy Hopkins, Al Monday, Toya Frazier, Dee Dee Clay, Brenda Rhodes and Wild Bill

Check out the photo galley. Pictures will be posted soon.

DFW Swing had the opportunity to judge and take part in Swingology’s FML 2nd Annual Swing Contest held January 29-30th at the (AEC) Arlington Entertainment Complex. What a show! Every contestant did their best and in my opinion I wish they all could be awarded 1st Prize for effort and courage. Good job to all the many judges and volunteers who helped to make this event the success it was.
